TightVNC can't access Remote Desktop (Windows xp Pro to Fedora 11)

I followed this Tutorial which allowed me to establish a ssh conection, but never a vnc connection.

The tutorial doesn't mention having to install a vnc server, so I didn't, but should I have?

Also, I am trying to access through a Linksys wap11 and a Netgear rp614v1. I suspect the router is blocking me somehow, because I can't access the wap setup page through it, but by eliminating the router I could.

Too much information?

Thanks, Rondo.

1. Let's not get confused with the subject line: Remote Desktop is a protocol for accessing another station - remotely. We are talking strictly VNC correct?
2. When using VNC there are always two parts: The VNC Server and VNC Client. So yes, where ever you are trying to connect to, needs a VNC server running.
3. If the subnet changes when the network goes through a switch/hub/router then you will need "port forwarding". Example: your client PC has an IP address of and connects to the Linksys wireless router which has an external IP address of and that connects to the "server" PC which has an IP address of You will need to set up port forwarding on the router to pass the information between two PCs.
