Thunderbird with MS Exchange Server in RHEL 6 Beta

Hi all

i am using hp compaq 6910p laptop running with RHEL 6 and i am trying to configure thunderbird 3.0 but i failed. i followed the below link to configure but failed to give the proper server name. And this is my first attempt

i am using a hp probook 6555b with windows for my normal operations and i am taking all the configuration details from MS outlook.

I mentioned my exchange server address in both incoming and outgoing server settings but failed with "connection timed out" error. I am failing at the step:6 mentioned in the link as i could see all is a path to the local windows machine, But in the link they asked us to take the server details from that location only. I have gone thourgh so many links but i couldnt succeed. This linux laptop is a standalone machine, its not in any domain.First attached snapshot shows from MS outlook - tools - address book - right clicked the pull down menu at the right side which contains the connection server detail. The second snapshot contains the url to be used to connect to proxy server to Exchange. should i mention this anywhere in thunderbird?

If the exchange server is setup for owa, its a snap. In fact, t-bird is one of the few clients which can use owa to connect to the server without a vpn or proxy. You may need an add-on to make this work though. I used Evolution mail client and didn't need to do any special configuration to make it work.

In the first picture for the server address, put the url for owa ( or or whatever your organization has setup for owa). This is the same url iphones and android uses to connect to the server. You shouldn't need to setup a proxy if you can access your mail via owa.

If owa isn't setup - contact your sys admins for the correct info.

Also, if you are really using RHEL 6 Beta, get the real thing, it'll be more stable & it's been out for a while, in fact they have released 6.1 by now ...
