thunderbird via squid

Hi..Deep master, I came back.
For me also it is same. In our office, the employees started using https port for orkut, facebook etc sites even these sites are blocked by the basic cisco load balancer. Then I explained to our manager about squid proxy, then he said, ok go ahead.
Then I configured squid proxy server on ubuntu 11.04 with many rule such as blocking sites(including https), time based url, content filtering, ncsa authentication, full access to some authorized IPs etc and also configured sarg and showed about to monitor that whichever sites are accessed by users. we are fully happy:).
But mails are not working in thunderbird/outlook through proxy and also FTP is denying:redface::banghead:.
Then I thought of going with transparent because since we no need do settings in each system's browser, I thought thunderbird/outlook may also works fine. Then I followed this:study:.
Since I am newbie in firewall rules I could not successfully configured transparent even I followed the steps as it is. Then reinstalled with cent 6 and reconfigured proxy and followed this for transparent. But as I already said I am newbie in firewall rules, this time also I could not to transparent even this thread is solved.
Beacause as soon as I am giving
"route add -net 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 10.240.221.198"
command in the server, it will neither ping from server to 192.168.0.* systems nor from client to server.
I googled "thunderbird through squid proxy" and found, everywhere they are saying the same i.e squid is not IMAP/POP proxy, it is http proxy and nowhere they are explaining what to do if we want access mails through proxy?
I have to fix up only 3 things masters.
1) mails through thunderbird/outlook
2) FTP access
3) Transparent proxy using ncsa authentications for nearly 100 users.
For that I don't know that it should be done through firewall rules or squid.conf file. So I request you all, please post the steps. So it would be very helpful for all the newbies like me. I am struggling with this since a week.:banghead:

did you read spuid-cache.org

Quote:

Squid is a caching proxy for the Web supporting HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, and more. It reduces bandwidth and improves response times by caching and reusing frequently-requested web pages. Squid has extensive access controls and makes a great server accelerator. It runs on most available operating systems, including Windows and is licensed under the GNU GPL.
