Thunderbird - install problem - libstdc++.so.5

I am installing Thunderbird, when I run the thunderbird file, I get the following error:

./thunderbird-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I tried apt-get install libstdc++.so.5 and a number of other variants, no luck.

Anybody had this problem before?
