Smile Thread: Mounting Problems in Ubuntu 16.04

I use Ubuntu 16.04; things were going swell for me until out of the blue my Windows partition became unmounted. I keep Windows handy for gaming purposes but also do things on the drive while logged into Ubuntu.

Code:
ceil@eps:~$ sudo mount /dev/sda4 "/media/ceil/Ceil's Home/"
Windows is hibernated, refused to mount.
Failed to mount '/dev/sda4': Operation not permitted
The NTFS partition is in an unsafe state. Please resume and shutdown
Windows fully (no hibernation or fast restarting), or mount the volume
read-only with the 'ro' mount option.
I restarted Windows, tried shutting it down and back on, even go far as hibernating, starting and doing a cold boot. I would like to have this fixed!

Thanks for your time,
Alex

The 'problem' is explained in the message you posted. If you want to access your windows partition from Ubuntu, you cannot leave windows hibernated so you will need to turn that off and fully shut down windows before booting into Ubuntu. Not sure what the problem is as this should not prevent you from booting windows.

All it took was one command in the windows terminal:

Code:
shutdown /s
This finally shut it all down.

Turn off fast-start in the power options.
