You need to install the Legacy nvidia drivers to get 3D acceleration. Not sure how good the performance will be, but that's what you need.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_d..._71.86.09.html
I believe Mint inclusdes EnvyNG that you can use to install the Drivers for nVidia ATI if you are unfamiliar with doing hte process manually.

Then configre Linux Mint..

Although it looks like this might be simplified in the latest versions..

what does the file get saved to as in i have troubles opening downloads thank you

depending on what browser you are using you will find that the default download directory can be different.
iceweasel downloads to the desktop
konqueror downloads to /home/$user/~

the naming of the file shouldn't change from the site to your computer. make sure that you are downloading the proper extension, i.e. windows, mac, .rpm, .deb... .

i haven't played with mint, yet i know that the nvidia driver for the debian, linux, install is pretty straight forward in a tty as root.

farslayer 04-08-2009 03:41 PM

by mint box I meant Linux Mint, your OS.. according to their release notes envyNG is part of your Distribution..

Applications > Administration > EnvyNG

if it's not there, then use Synaptic to install it.

yes you need to be online. if you're not online, did you install from a cd/dvd?
if so you might be able to find what you're looking for on that.

if you're looking at just putting the nvidia driver, from their site, on your system.
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
and then follow along, download the driver, read the instructions, install and then you're done.

farslayer 04-08-2009 06:01 PM

gtk if you are running gnome
qt if you are running kde
t if you just want the console based text interface.

and yes you need to be online to use it so it can download the necessary drivers. (nvidia 71.x)
