This is GREAT!
I tried loading Kubuntu over my Xubuntu install and didn't like it. So I tried uninstalling it. Well, on reboot, I got the dreaded Kinit "no profile" error. Did some research and got the gui up temporarily using STARTX. Still had to do this every time. Anyway, the system requested an update (POLITELY---UNLIKE WINDOWS), and I allowed the update. All my previous settings, backgrounds, logins, etc. and the GUI problem were fixed in one lick.
Guys and gals, Ubuntu/Xubuntu is slick. I still haven't gotten used to the vagaries of installing software (gphoto2 is giving me fits), but thats okay. The games portion has Sudoku, and the wife and daughter love that, but the bride says "I DON'T LIKE LINUX". She's comfortable with Hasta La Vista, and thats okay too. Here is picture of my blushing bride from an article I wrote a couple a years ago for QST http://www.neidlinger.us/greenies.pdf Loving it! Its not perfect yet but thats okay. nice collection of radios, one radio I would love to buy is a SGC SG2020 for SSB. I am a SWLer myself, and do some freebanding between 26 & 28 MHZ on a RCI-2950DX, R.L.Drake-SW8 for SWL, the SW8 has been discontinued which is too bad because it is an excellent receiver...

Morse code isn't required anymore, and its only a 35 question multiple guess exam!
Think about it! Good luck whatever you decide to do. Philip |
