Think I need to install the wireless card drivers now. How?

I've downloaded the linux drivers for my Intel Pro/Wireless from the Intel page. Now how do I properly install said drivers?

Should we assume you are using SUSE, as your OS emblem suggests?

If so, I would be pretty surprised that SUSE didn't include drivers for such a common WLAN chipset. Are you running the latest version, fully updated? Are you sure the device isn't being detected already? Have you checked the output of "iwconfig"?

Yes SUSE 11.3
iwconfig gets:
Code:
eth1
          lo no wireless extensions

          eth no wireless extensions

          IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:off/any
          Mode:Managed Channel:0 Access Point: Not-Associated
          Bit Rate:0 kb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0
          Retry limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
          Encryption key:off
          Power Management:off
          Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
sometimes the encryption key comes on and is displayed after configuring w/YAST. Other than that, I never get values for the other stuff (Link Quality, Signal level)

OK. I think I'm getting somewhere. Using Master as the mode,(instead of adhoc or managed), I get more values when I type iwconfig. At this point I can ping myself but can't ping the internet.

eth1 IEEE 802.11abg ESSID:"NETGEAR"
Mode:Managed Frequency:2.457 GHz Access Point: 00:26:F2:93:65:64
Bit Rate:54 Mb/s Tx-Power=20 dBm Sensitivity=8/0
Retry limit:7 RTS thrff Fragment thrff
Encryption key:9165-F1E8-1C Security modepen
Power Managementff
Link Quality=36/100 Signal level=-17 dBm Noise level=-89 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:65
