tell me what are very important thing n00bs (me) have to know to be good in linux (im using right now 8,2)

It's not as much knowledge you
need, it's the will to learn and the
capability to retrieve information.

Basically I dare say that with the
files in /usr/man or /usr/doc you
should be able to do the basics.

If you require a sequence of things,
there's rute and the Newbie Linux
administration guides .... :)

nOObs need to know:


Where to find the tissues.



How to hold their bladder for six hours straight.



A good partner who can do everything else that needs to be done.



Somebody rich 'cause they wont have time to go to work and need someone to replace the hardware that is smashed in frustration.



A good mental health professional.

First thing to know is that there's no such thing as Linux 8.2 (yet). I'm guessing you mean SuSE 8.2?

Second thing to know is to read a lot of man pages and other documentation, and read LQ a lot, and search google a lot. And experiment a lot - practice what you research. (Preferably as a normal user. *g* Or even create an 'expendable' user account you can blow out without worrying about it.)

Third thing to know is to ask specific questions in order to get specific help. ;)

1) DOS experience helps a lot though optional

2) Learn your way around the console or command prompt.

3) Do not resort to re-installing. It doesn't help in UNIX/LINUX.

4) Blam people if you can not get the program/device running to the way you want it. Then get back working on it.

5) As a user poke through each directory. Its the only way to learn the OS.

I fired mine when I switch to LINUX.
