Theme crashed, can't get desktop after login, please help

Hi there

I have Linux Ubuntu 8.04 , after installing a theme my desktop froze and I couldn't do anything. I turned of my PC and login to Ubuntu, but after login I only get sandy brown screen. Nothing there I cant do anything, how do I fix this?
Change the theme from live CD? How? Any solutions???

I don't use ubuntu so i dont' have the package names but

reinstall gnome.
before you log in hit ctrl + alt + f4 to open up a virtual terminal
login to the vt
run: sudo apt-get install ubuntu-gnome
(or whatever the gnome package is called, i don't know how to search with apt but if your stuck "apt-get --help" should point you in the right direction i imagine.
then do ctrl+alt+f7 and login to gdm like normal and see what happens.
