The trash has reached its maximum size! Cleanup the trash manually.

when i want to delete a file to go to my trash there is a warning message that i get,it is as follows:"The trash has reached its maximum size!
Cleanup the trash manually."
what is the possible solution to this problem,i am using kubuntu!!

ButterflyMelissa 05-02-2011 08:53 AM

The option? Take out the trash... :D
In Gnome it's super easy, right-click, select "empty trash" - unless there's a "gotcha" you did not mention here... :)

ButterflyMelissa 05-02-2011 12:52 PM

Wow, now, that is a detail you should have mentioned first :D

Lemme see ... tried this?

Quote:

rm -rf ~/.Trash/*
as root from the console?

Lemme know how this turns out!

In kubuntu, Trash is located at
Code:

/home/username/.local/share/Trash/
Kind regards

What would the .Trash directory in root's home directory have to do with it?

The XDG location for Trash, which both GNOME and KDE adhere to, is ~/.local/share/Trash Have a look in there. There should be two directories in there, one containing files and one containing metadata that indicates when the files in ~/.local/share/Trash/files was put in there and where it was before it was put in there. Worth

Ehrm...typo...my answer and that of repo's should be combined...

Eek, sorry. I do assume the "regular user" will not have the permissions to do this, hence the "root" bit, OP should gain root access first, then do this, to the proper trash can of course... :)

solved the delete trash manually problem

i actually went to /home/eric/.local/Trash....then i deleted the Trash folder. it actually worked!!
the command did not work for me.

meduser 02-04-2012 12:28 PM

my solution

went into trash setup, increased the size of the trash bin, and hit apply....all good now

AlphaSaphyre 03-08-2015 09:27 AM

change Trash size

When I check the directory (current user): .local/share/Trash/

I found there is a file call: metadata

With an editor I change the value of Size with a reasonable number because there was a huge number.

Then you be able to delete without annoying message.

Since no one mentioned this solution, i post here.
I had this problem and solved it in the File manager (Dolphin in my case) configuration i went to Trash tab and there switched "Full trash" option from "Show a warning" to "Delete biggest files from trash". I am guessing other file managers have similar option.

Nothing like reviving a thread that has been dead for 5 years.

You mean ANOTHER thread that had been dead for years...postcd has re-opened several years-closed threads over the past few days with 'solutions' that either don't fit the original problem, or duplicate other advice given.
