The RedHat GUI
Hi,
At the moment RedHat 7.2 is starting with a shell style interface. I wish to have a GUI I read in the RedHat manual that to do so you edit the inittab file in the etc folder. from the defult 3 to 5 when I entered the editior my file was allready set to id:5:initdefault: indicating it was supposed to be running a GUI style interface not suprising as I selected this on install. My question: Why is Linux not using a GUI? with the run level at 5 allready? Thanks, SamLinux |
if it is configured, type startx after login
|
default option is runlevel 3
because when u start ur system for the first time then if the systen boots up fine till the login ,it is sure that there is no problem . then u can proceed to work on the graphics section and also most of these are meant to be servers there u do not need the graphical mode so the text mode is there by default regards |
Yes, but what I am saying is my Linux was set to run level 5 aka GUI Mode.
automatically. So why is it not working with a GUI? Thanks, SamLinux |
"Yes, but what I am saying is my Linux was set to run level 5 aka GUI Mode.
automatically. So why is it not working with a GUI?" Somewhere in /etc/initab there is a table which describes which script to run for a selected run level. Check the table entry for level 5 to get the name of the script to be run when level 5 is selected. Then look at the script and see if it actually starts a GUI. ------------------------- Stvve Stites |
Will do thanks for that.
