The problem of switching windows on gentoo

OS system: 4.0.5-gentoo
This computer is shared.
When I login into the system by Display Manager, not by Command Line Interface. I login in And then a desktop shows, the terminal opens on the upper left and can't move. There are no Minimum key, Maximum key or the Exit key on the bar of the terminal. So when I type program on the terminal. It will show it in the full screen, but I can't switch back to the terminal or other window.

How can I deal with this problem? Thank you.

P.S. I'm not a root user.

Sounds like xterm is run on X server without WM. What's in ~/.xinitrc ?

Then you have to describe your situation better.

This box has been set up by someone else?
What kind of login you get (CLI, DM)?

Thank you, when I login, it shows desktop with a small terminal windows and nothing else. I can't move the terminal. On the other hand, I can open any GUI program from the terminal, such as emacs etc.. Also, I can see the mouse in the screen with symbol "X" not the arrow like other system.
In this way, I can't say it has WM and DM, but it seems have.

OK, you still didn't tell us whether this box is designed to work like this or you built it, cannot figure out what went wrong and need support?

Well, without root access there is not much you can do. Learn keyboard shortcuts, perhaps? Will your fullscreen application close on Alt+F4 ?

I can't use Alt+F4. Now if I want to use terminal. I will use Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+F2 to get into the terminal. But in that place, I can't use imagemagick to save screenshot.
