The order of drivers and codecs instalation

Does it matter what is installed first, a proprietary video driver or proprietary multimedia codecs?
Is there a recommended installation order for any other software?

to boot your hardware including your video card...you install either open source or closed source video drivers

if you system boots then you decide whether to install multimedia codecs if your current distro does not support some software codec issue.

Try installing vlc that often runs a lot of stuff unless you mean adobe flashplayer?

That used to be a very big deal but I doubt is as important anymore.

I think that any system ought to have the correct video driver and setup before you go too far along.

Of course, my system has the open source drivers out of the box. And I know how to install the closed source ATI driver and not free codecs like mp3, DVD etc. The question was: what to install first, the ATI driver or the codecs.
If I understand jefro's post correctly the order of drivers/codecs installation isn't important anymore.

As far as i know the order doesn't matter anymore.
