Thanks all, its true, all distros run fast like a bitch, some a little faster than other, but all them are WAY BETTER than the os my netbook had installed by default.

I guess i will keep using crunchbang, its great.

I have a very cheap hp netbook, and i run fedora 14, blazingly fast. It would be even faster if i used xfce instead of gnome

I'm just thinking of buying an SSD and sticking Linux on it with one of these - anyone done? Also I thought I remembered there were problems with some driver support for these on Linux - anyone who can confirm whether you can get it running smoothly? I'm thinking ideally I'd like to run Neverware....
