The ever popular "Not getting any sound"

My computer is an AOpen EZ-18 SFF Barebones based computer with NForce2 IGP MCP-T integrated sound/graphics. My OS is SimplyMEPIS 3.3. I've been running it over a week now, it installed just fine. Everything worked ok, sound and video has been working great on Mp3's, DVD's, games (UT2004) etc. Suddenly just today I can't get any sound except for the opening music when Mepis first loads. I checked Kmix to make sure the master volume wasn't at zero for some reason, currently set at 70%. I rebooted, no help. I thought maybe there was an issue with AmaroK which I only installed a day or two ago so I used apt-get remove amarok to uninstall it, but that didn't help. I can't think of anything else I've done recently that would effect the sound. Maybe I changed something in the settings on accident, I'll keep checking different things but I'm open to suggestions. It's wierd the sound would suddenly stop working, hmmm...

Thanks,

Joshua S.

Side note: When I try to play an mp3 with XMMS the counter/timer stays at zero and the bar isn't moving, looks like it's not even playing songs, but can't confirm with no sound. Dvd's play ok on Kaffeine, just has no sound.
