Question The best hardware to purchase for linux

After having extensive problems with two old laptops; one using Microsoft ME (enough said), and the other having a hardware conflict that brought everything down, I have decided to buy a brand new computer.

I'm guessing this might spark a bit of debate, but I thought I might ask some experienced users here what my best options are. I need a small laptop that will give me minimal trouble getting onto my network. I'd prefer something that would also allow me to get online with a dial-up and allow me to use my m130 pilot.

That being said what sort of notebook computer would run smoothest with linux? And what version of linux would be most compatible? I currently have Fedora, but I'm willing to switch over to something else that is fairly user-friendly.

Well, from what I've read so far, a Dell Inspiron 1150 looks promising, or something from IBM. Does anybody know if either of these would run well, get onto the network, run ACPI?

Look here to find reviews of machines...

I've got an IBM Thinkpad R32, and except for the modem
which I don't need in the first place it's a very fine machine
to run Linux on. My old TP 770ED worked well, too, in fact
with the old one the modem was working, too ;)

If you decide to go for a Thinkpad I'd suggest getting a model
that uses an ATI Radeon with separate video RAM :}
