Text Tools - Banner

Hi

I need to print out a message when a user logs in using 'banner message'. However, I get the following error message:
bash: banner: command not found

I am not sure if I need to install the functionality, but I thought it was s standard command. Any ideas?

Well, I haven't gotten any more information about the standard functionality. But I did manage to download an application (TextBanner) offering similar functionality to the standard command. While this serves the purpose, I would still like to know why the standard functionality isn't available on our GNU/Linux machine. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks.

You didn' state in which file you put the banner command. Did you just call it's name or did you call it with full path?

Their is no such command as banner and never has been.

Look in /etc/issue and /etc/motd

Edit the files directly and that will fix your problem.

This page outlines login banners for *nix, windows, dos, Mac, etc.. a nice resource for an admin.

That error was when I was just entering the command, not from a file. However, if I were putting it in a file it would be either in a specific user's profile file or in the system profile file.
