Text based .ics editor
Here is a rather specific question.
Is there a text based piece of software that can be used to edit .ics files. I am running evolution with my calendar at my office. When I am home, where I run windows, I would like to be able to have access to my evolution calendar . I can lauch the copy of evolution from my work PC at home, but becaue of the internet connection it is very very slow. If there was a little text based app or non-graphical version of evolution that could read my .ics file it would be very much faster. The problem with opening the .ics file in a text editor is that all of the appointment times are in unix time, which is not very helpful to the reader. Thanks for any help. |
There is not a specific editor (graphic or otherwise) that was made for making .ics files to be easily readable. Have you tried opening this in Less (More, etc) from the CLI?

I looked on Google and Assume CLI means something like command line interface. I also assume that more and less is simple a way of reading a text file. I have alredy opened the .ics in a text editor, but because the times are in unix time they are unusable.
There is graphical software that allows you to open the .ics file in a readable format (i.e. Korganiser). I am looking for a text based (or maybe CLI-based, if my understanding is correct) version that will do the same thing. |
<light-hearted sarcasm>Read my last post to this and I think the answer still stands.</s>
But, if you do find a text editor that does all this, *please* post it here when you can as I am sure it would be very useful! |
I think that i may have found a possible solution to this problem, but I am having some trouble. a service called icalx (icalexchange) provieds the ability to convert your .ics file into a graphical web page. This would get around the bandwidth limitation I am experinceing lanching evolution remotly. However, the website www.icalx.com has virtually no support and I cannot upload my .ics correctly. Has anyone else done this using evolution? If so please, please tell me as it is driving me crazy.

I'm having the same problem, I can't get evolution to connect to icalx. I'm using http://icalx.com/private/username/filename
but get a "calendar is read only error". Anyone else set up icalx and evolution?? |
