Test Kernel of Fedora 2.6 has no gui

I am running Fedora with the 2.4.something Kernel. I couldn't read my windows partition with it so I installed the 2.6.something kernel. I can now mount my windows partition, but I am always in the text based run level. How do I get it to run in GUI.

did you try to run 'startx' ?

does it return an error?

I tried that and it gave me an error. It said it couldn't find any screens. I don't know if this is signifigant but when I turned the computer on and went into the 2.6.5 kernel, Kudzu came up and said that my nVidia Ethernet controller had been disconected. I don't see how this could be possible since it is part of my motherboard.

it's probably because the driver is no longer available on your system, you will need to reinstall the nvnet driver, or compile the forcedeth driver which is now happily part of 2.6.x. same goes for X... you need to install the drivers again
