Just make a launcher for it on the panel or desktop (assuming you are using gnome or kde)

mhearn - The key here was that he said HE MUST USE THE TERMINAL.

Just pointing that out.

Make an alias. In his /home/user/.bashrc, put something like this:

alias game='./abe -f'

Change game to some thing he can type easily.

Does this have to be run outside of X, or can it be run in a terminal window?
If it can be run in a terminal window within X, you can do something like to following to give your son an icon to click on:

In KDE, you right click on the empty desktop and choose create new -> link to application. The Execute tab is where you insert the following command. In Gnome, it's similar, but you choose new launcher instead.
Code:
xterm -e abe -f
