Terminal on Linux Mint 17.1 version behaving like glass mirror

Terminal on Linux Mint 17.1 started behaving like glass mirror, Able to see through background clearly, Terminal is able to take inputs from user and allows to resize and close it.But can't judge by seeing terminal what I am typing on to the terminal, and can't even see the output of command.

If it's purely a question of opacity, and you're using Cinnamon:

. Launch Terminal

. Edit->Profile Preferences->Background->Shade transparent or image background: move slider to right

Edit: You may also want to play with the Colours tab to choose a colour that looks more visible for you.

chanikya,

Welcome to LQ.

First, open the Terminal and then click on the Terminal tab at the top.

Next, click on Reset.

If that doesn't work, click on Edit then Profile Preferences and have a look at the settings in Colours and Background.

I have tried all these option and even tried installing other terminals, like terminator, konsole, yakuake, etc... terminals, but no use all behaves same like glass.
I can't able to see what I am typing in the terminal. Allowable actions are closing resizing the terminal.

Save all your personal data and do a fresh install of Linux Mint 17.3.

Have you tried changing your theme (Preferences->Themes->Desktop)?

Habitual 03-16-2016 04:31 PM

chanikya 03-16-2016 04:38 PM

It might be useful if you tell us everything that you have tried so far. :)

When it did start happening? Did anything else strange start happening at the same time? Was it after a specific event like an upgrade?

Also, screenshot as per Habitual's request.

Interesting. And the terminal still acts like it's working? If you run emacs or some other gui application from the terminal, does it actually open? If so, you could try something like:
Code:

xterm > logfile 2>&1
And then use a file browser to see if logfile contains any useful debugging information, like an X error on startup or similar. Just spit-balling ideas here...

yes I can trigger any gui application from shell prompt, only thing I cant see what I am typing.

You're not the only one to experience this:

Check out adrian8888's solution in particular.

Hi Hydrurga
I observed one more behavior, that is login screens are shown two times, means I have enter password twice in order to see desktop.
Issue is solved by reinstalling libegl1-mesa, now all icons are visible.
sudo apt-get install --reinstall libegl1-mesa

Just to check, reinstalling libegl1-mesa solved the "glass mirror" issue (yay!), but you have an outstanding issue with the password?

In that case, you should mark this thread as "Solved", and open a new thread for the password problem.
