Terminal Emilator

I have been a dabbler in UNIX for years and also worked in the XENIX platform so *IX is somewhat familiar. I have a Windows XP machine networked to my Redhat 8.0 box and need an emulator. I have tried hyperterminal but it does not get a login. Does hyperterminal work or would anyone suggest a different emulator?
