Terminal Connection

I am new to linux have a Cisco router I want to use Cutecom to console to my router. But with a usb connection to my computer instead of serial. When I lunch the cutecom program open I did not see the USB option for me to use can someone guide me through this process? I have a console cable connected to a usb to serial adapter with the usb end connected to my PC. I want to be able to console into my router.

Welcome to LinuxQuestions.

You can manually type in your serial port in the device text box. You can look at the output of the dmesg command when the adapter is plugged into your computer to see if it is recognized and assigned a device ID which is most likely /dev/ttyUSB0

I think the main thing is: with a USB/serial adapter you use the serial port option, because to the router it's a serial port. It's only USB to the PC.
