Telnet

I've installed Mandrake 9.1 and chosen to install telnet. However, when I try to telnet to that server it won't connect. Is there any where I can configure this?

Thanks again,

I don't want to come across as rude, but are you ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE you can't do without a telnet daemon? You can use ssh for all the same stuff and more, plus you won't be teaching yourself bad security practices

What exactly is it that requires a telnet daemon? Usually you'll find there's a better way to do it.

I was wanting to set up a mud. I understood that this required telnet. If it can be done any other way (and one which isn't unsafe) that would be good.

I see... well, in my limited experience, a MUD server does not require a standard in.telnetd type of setup. You would install the MUD server (is there one you have in mind?) and if you want to do things the clean standard way, you can make entries for it in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf so it gets started at bootup, I guess.

I'm thinking of popping on MudOsv22.2b14. Not decided on the lib yet. If you think I don't need to telnet, could you suggest for me a better way for remote connections? Or rather, how to do so

Thanks,

You do need telnet CLIENTS. Or mud clients, which are little different. I thought you were asking how to set up a telnet daemon, which raises big red flags... I think we were talking past each other. On the "telnet" side, you already have everything you, personally, need to connect to the mud. You just need to download and install your mud server, which of course I know nothing about.

Are you specifying the correct port when you try to connect to the server using telnet?

But there is no mud server running and listening to connect to.
