Putting "beginning network concepts" into Google pulls up lots. Start there: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/b...Networking.htm |
A book is nice to start with for sure -- but starting from a and working to z will give you a lot of things that you don't, IMO, need to know to be a networking person.
But check out the network simlulators out there, and virtual machines. Create your own network and try to complete some common scenarios. Then search the internet for information when you get stuck. Hands on experience is the way to learn fastest,.. for some people. |
This is a good tutorial on subnetting.
When I first discovered it, it was on a *.edu site; I'm guessing the author left there and just put it up, as is, on his personal site. Don't be deceived by the HTML 3.0 look. It's well-organized, clearly written, and well-presented. http://www.ralphb.net/IPSubnet/index.html |

Initially my answer was going to be a nice Old or Stout but now I see its about networking you may want to look at what Universities use for their 1st year courses. I currently have in front of me, I should be doing an assignment but I'm sitting here on LQ, Business Data Communications & Networking 11th Edition by Fitzgerald, Dennis, Durcikova. (Link is to the 10th edition). |
