Teacher can't make Ubuntu install and work on imacs

I am making a 6th grade computer lab out of recycled machines. I have a couple of imacs made in 2001 mixed in with the PCs. I installed Dapper 6 for macs on them and they are slower than slow! I have been trying to install Xubuntu on them through disk and through network and no can do!!! Help! I have been to all the wiki and help sites, following all directions.

We are having an enormously good time with our Ubuntu PCs, doing edutainment, open office impress, writer and calculation as well as internet research with a network configured recycled printer.

How to use a pile of imacsa I got doing the same?

Following everything but the system requirements apparently?
The imac's dont anywhere near meet the requirments for ubuntu 6 to run smoothly. They're gonna chug at it.
Why? you may ask...
Because then, and for quite a number of years, they really did suck. They were pretty, and also pretty underpowered and lacking a bit on the ram and hard drive areas too.

Try an older distro for the imacs and you should be fine. It's either that or find someone who'll sell you 512 ram for each of them.
