Tarball does not uncompress in Debian 5.0

Upon attempting to uncompress a tarball with
tar jzvf firefox-3.5.3.tar.bz2
, the terminal complains, "tar: Conflicting compression options". No idea what to do. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

You want xjvf, not jzvf -- j is for uncompressing bzip2 files (which you have) and z is for uncompressing gzip files, so like the message says, those options conflict. Likewise, you need to tell tar to extract the file with the x flag.
