tar problem


hello..

i am trying out the various tar parameters and i have tried the following:
tar czvf file

upon untar with
tar cxvf

i have the following errors:
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data -crc error
tar: child returned status 1
tar: error exit delayed from previous error

how can i resolve this error and why this error appear??

I'm not absolutely sure, but I think I remember you don't use j or z for making an archive. The gzip and bz2 filters are for extracting .tar.gz and .tar.bz2 files.

Try this

tar cvf <filename>
bzip2 <newtararchive>

result

filename.tar.bz2

Now

tar jxvf <filename.tar.bz2>

decompresses and untars all in one.
