tar.gz and rpm?
 
how do i install packages in tar.gz and rpm. n which one is better.
sounds unintelligent for a linux user...but this was the first time in 2 yrs tht i needed to install nethin else than what came bundled in the distro.

If you wanna play safe, use the pre-built mdk rpms for your mdk distro. That way you will not get into dependency trouble or dirty your system. If you dont get rpm packages, you will get hold of the source (source tarballs) and compile them. Just make sure you have all the required packages before starting to compile.
Also remember that you might have to --force install a package if some dependency was installed from source and the rpm database doesnt have that info.
