Tar command and Tape drive

Hi Gurus:

a brief question, what is the right command to backup a file directly to the internal tape drive of the server?

I'm tryng to use this command tar -cvf Filename1 /dev/st0 but failed.

am i using the right device name of the tape drive? if not, how can i verify if i am using the right tape drive device file?

thank you
