tamil typing in linux

i have been using Red hat linux workstation release 6.4(santiago)
kernal linux 2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.x86_64
gnome 2.28.2

hope the above details can through lights on details aboutthe red had version am using. i just want to know how to enable TAMIL typing in this red hat.
especiall tamil phonatic typing .

any one using red hat or knows about how to do this pls guide.

i have searched for IBusm17 but no luck!!!

You're using Red Hat Enterprise...so, you should be able to install the language packs/fonts/localization through your online repositories, which you're paying for access to, with your RHEL subscription. Also, Red Hat support can walk you through this...have you called them, since you're paying for support???

A quick search on Red Hat's knowledgebase points you to what you need. If you're not PAYING for RHEL, you don't have access to the packages you need.

Keyboard layout switcher applications should have the option to change input language to Tamil, but you might have to add/install it first. Which window manager or desktop environment are you using?

The OP said they were using Gnome in their first post.

In the menu, System - Preferences -Keyboard will enable you to add Tamil. Click on Options on that tab and you can set the key combination to change layouts and set the Scroll-lock light to show when the second layout is in use.

Right click on the panel and you can add a keyboard indicator to show your layout with a name or a flag. You can also use it to change layouts by clicking on it.

Red Hat will have Tamil fonts, but there are more here:

If you get a third-party font, put it in .fonts in your home directory and it will be immediately available.
