takes long time to load the KDE
hi,
i am using mandrake 10.0 with KDE... when i boot KDE takes long time to load........some times it can not load's....... 10 to 20 minuts takes to load..........so how to rescue this issue. |
What are the specifications of your machine? You could try some other desktop manager like fluxbox etc.
|
Heh, I thought you were going to say like 40 seconds, so I could say "KDE IS SLOW!!!!1111eleventyone!!" ;)
Perhaps KDE is probing for something and locking up at that. Do you get any sound errors? |
when it loads the KDE it said
initializing system services........ it continious with this... in console there is a fatal error with "xkbcomp" |
I had this once, the reason was that I did not have a line saying
Code:
127.0.0.1 localhost hope this helped you out. |
sir i have that line. in my /etc/hosts file.
so what is the problem. |
can i have any idea???
|
Try a different desktop manager.. gnome, fluxbox etc.
|
sir 5 days before it loading well after the custum kernal compilation only behaving like this.
when KDE loads "initializing system sevices" 28 % complited. after that it hangs it takes long time to load.... in system backrounf there is a error that is xkbcomb fatal error.... what is this xkbcomb please help me.... |
isn't there some logfile kde writes to? Maybe if you could find it, the quest for what is slowing it down could be easier ;).
|
sir could u please explain me clearly.
because i am newbie. |
I have this exact problem (initializing services 28% ,etc), seems to only happen if the network has been brought up, works fine if network is down. I checked my host file, its fine. What could this be?
|
I would
A.) Not use kde B.) Install fluxbox C.) Be happy |
Geeks like you and I, Ray, wouldn't use KDE. However for normal people like my little brother and mom, Fluxbox, Windowmaker, etc are a bit scary. We are all aware of the other slimmer, slicker, and quicker graphical environments. So if you're going to share Linux as an alternative to MSWindows then you'll need to use KDE or Gnome, so KDE really is necessary and needs discussion.
As for the problem at hand, the hosts file, I changed the hosts file by reversing the order, instead of having localhost first: <hostname> 127.0.0.1 localhost 127.0.0.1 This seems to happen when Linux is installed without a network connection (I had a bad network card). So try to install while connected to a LAN! |
yeah i dont know why i typed that?
I have found kde to have some really serious bugs though |
