System tray equivalent

Heyo,

I just recent (ie. last night :)) installed Mandrake 9.1 using KDE 3.1 in a dual boot with XP. now i think i have everything the way i like, but one thing continues to bug me:

is there a way to get programs to run in a mode similar to the Windows System tray?

what i mean, is that can i run Overnet, for example, in a place where it's still accessible, but not on the "taskbar"? ditto for GAIM.

any help would be appreciated. thx!

Well, if you're using KDE you should use KDE
tools, which in a lot of cases will be "dockable",
and they will show up in the same spot as on
winDOHs ... in the bottom right corner, besides
the clock.

So, if you want instant messaging, use kopete
in KDE ...

Cheers,
Tink

thx! i think i follow, but i'm confused as to the KDE tools bit. should these be installed already, or do i need to get them on my own?

Let's say many things that come with KDE
will do the docking, others you might need to
search for on http://freshmeat.net ...
