System tray

Hi,

I run KDE and I just downloaded Kopete (very nice little IM client btw), but I am frustrated by the fact that it sits in the task bar as well as the system tray. Is there any way to stop the program from moving into the task bar as well? I assume there must be a way (although maybe not built into Kopete), as Klipper seems to be able to do it.

I would also love XMMS to be able to move into the system tray, although this, and plenty of other programs I might add, dont seem to have system tray functionality...

Is this because only Gnome and KDE use system trays, and until recently used incompatible system trays? If this is the case, now that freedesktop.org has set a system tray standard that both Gnome and KDE use (and possibly others in the future), will this situation get better?

Ahh, whoops! Actually hitting the close button sends it to the system tray... Shoulda investigated a bit more before posting =]

However, the other points still remain... do you think proggies like xmms and others will become system tray friendly?

there is a program called xmms-kde. I think it does what you want re xmms. The rpm is in the contrib mirrors for mandrake. Go to
http://plf.zarb.org/~nanardon/urpmiweb.php
for setting up your system so that it can download packages for you.
