What is displayed when

ps -ef|grep apm

Issue following commands (DO NOT REBOOT) as root:

/etc/rc.d/init.d/apmd stop

Wait then. If the problem does not occure anymore then:
/sbin/chkconfig --level 2345 apmd off

Are you sure you are using GRUB and not LILO ?
If you are using LILO you need to add the
apm=off acpi=off
to /etc/lilo.conf under the append line for your kernel.

Run afterwards /sbin/lilo

I've got a very similar problem with my new suse 9.1 distro. My laptop just suspends after as little as 10 seconds! Longest so far is 2 mins! Even did it during installation!

I suspect I have a similar problem as above. And I notice Vlad that you're useing 9.1, how do I get a boot command in there??

Hello bearpaws,

please open a new thread and give here the link to it. Indeed, your problem might be related to the original one,
but it's not nice to hack gavita's thread.

As for your problem:
Check your BIOS settings regarding ACPI.
Try to boot SuSE in Failsafe mode and see what happens.
Do you have ACPI enabled or not ?
What are the settings in Yast->System->Power Management ?

Does your problem happen independent of whether you are running as root or
as "normal" user ?
Are there any differences between running with battery only and running with AC Power?

What do you exactly mean by "get a boot command" ?
