Question System Suspend

Hi!

I am new to Red Hat Linux and recently have encountered a problem .
Approximately every 20 - 25 minutes, the computer beeps 3 times
following a system suspension. However, when a key on the keyboard is
hit, the system resumes after the computer beeping once.

These are the messages from the system logs:

Does this happen independent whether you are working or the computer is
idle ?

Try to boot passing
apm=off acpi=off
to the kernel.

Yes this problem occurs whether or not I am doing work on the computer or when the computer is idle.

I am sorry but I am really new to linux and I am not sure how to do what you ahve asked me to do. However, after reading some other website, I did the following using the terminal:

/sbin/chkconfig apmd off
/sbin/service apmd stop

But even after those commands and rebooting, I am still having the same problem.

Do you use GRUB or LILO as boot loader ?

Besides that what is the output of
hdparm -C
hdparm -i
hdparm -v

Depending on the distribution:
either
/sbin/hdparm
or
/bin/hdparm

with the option mentioned in my previous replay.

or change user to root and issue hdparm with the options given below.

Changing user happens in a konsole window with:

Oooops sorry. I gave you an incomplete syntax.
The command shall be run against your hard disk:

So assuming /dev/hda is your harddrive

/sbin/hdparm -C /dev/hda
/sbin/hdparm -i /dev/hda
/sbin/hdparm -v /dev/hda

Well this looks fine.

Try now the boot options:
acpi=off apm=off

When you are at the GRUB boot menu hit the "e" key in order to edit the boot options.

I have tried to reboot my computer and have tried hitting the 'e' button, but nothing happens. Am I doing something wrong?

Wenn you are at the GRUB menu, press first [TAB] and then "e".
Tab will stop the count-down and e will allow you to edit the boot options.

If this does not help then
edit your /boot/grub/grub.conf and add the options at the boot line for the kernel
you are using.

Nothing happened even after pressing the [TAB] key. I have edited the grub.conf and I am attaching the edited file below:

# grub.conf generated by anaconda
#
# Note that you do not have to rerun grub after making changes to this file
# NOTICE: You have a /boot partition. This means that
# all kernel and initrd paths are relative to /boot/, eg.
# root (hd0,0)
# kernel /vmlinuz-version ro root=/dev/hda3
# initrd /initrd-version.img
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=10
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
password --md5 $1$s/GPqwjk$DzO2cg7G4YqPcHvzQsAEW/
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.20-8)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.20-8 ro root=LABEL=/ hdc=ide-scsi acpi=off apm=off
initrd /initrd-2.4.20-8.img

Have I done it right?
