System Monitor: on 100% idle???
SUSE 10 KDE 3.5
I have a icon on my kicker calld system monitor which when I mouse over has the following values: CPU: 100% idle mem: 230 90%free swap 1,027 MB 100% What I have noticed is that it is always so, no change even when I have many apps open. I have never seen the swap ever be used. Is this expected for linux, or is the monitor 'faulty' Thanks for enlightening me on this subject. SL |
I don't know why CPU should be idle all the time even when you have programs open and supposedly doing something...some more searching might help. However your RAM and SWAP values look perfectly normal. The kernel figures out the best use of system resources. If the swap is not needed, it is not used.
Edit: Google on the swap why/when it is used? To get you started here's a link on memory management. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=175419 Tux, |
Thanx tuxrules. I will do a search.
== and oh, btw, you have a mean looking machine there...it was the MSI or the Dell for me..I chickened and got the Dell... |
Also my KPoersave is set CPU to dynamic. Will that make a diffference?
