System hangs when I close lid, put battery in etc

my system (slack 12) hangs on various events like when i plug in the power cable, close the lid, slide the battery in (i took it out since my lap is connected to the power supply all the time). i'm guessing they generate some irq which the system does not know how to handle..

how can i .. do something with this?

To me, that sounds like an ACPI issue.

ACPI is power management, and each of those actions (plugging in power cable, closing lid, etc.) would cause an action to be taken. e.g. closing the lid would cause hibernation or standby.

I would say use the package manager to get ACPI, but I'm not sure if Slackware has a package manager.
