System frozen by a ADSL USB modem
Few seconds after I plug in the USB cable of my ADSL D-LINK 200 modem the system (Mandrake 9.1 on a Gericom Masterpiece laptop, modem D-LINK 200) totally hangs.
I installed Mdk 9.1 also on a second machine, a desktop with ATHLON 1.2, but as soon as I plug the USB cable connecting to the modem the same occurs. I made a very simple installation, avoiding servers and so on. On rebooting, if the cable is still connected, the booting hangs on "finding module dependencies" or few after it. I think it's a problem of USB settings, but I can't manage it at all. Any idea? PLEASE SOS.. |
SOLUTION FOUND!
the problem is in the dabusb module (called by hotplug), which tries to initialize to modem, so freezing the system. I found it looking in var/log/messages searching for the exact hanging moment. The dabusb module must NOT be loaded when inserting the USB ADSL modem. So I inserted its name in etc/hotplug/blacklist it works... still did'nt connect with the modem, but I'm installing the eciadsl drivers, the system now is not frozen by the modem and I can work on |
