System freezing when plugging in USB printer
I asked this question in another thread, but it was at the bottom and I wasn't getting any responses, so I thought I'd try again with a new post.

I've set up Linux for almost everything I need to use on a regular basis except for printing. I originally had some success using CUPS to set it up and print a test page, but I wasn't able to print from the command line or programs so I gave up for a while. Now I've started trying to get it to work again, but now every time I plug in the USB cable from the printer the entire system freezes. The mouse and keyboard stop taking input, the current program stops functioning, and neither Ctrl+Alt+F1 or Ctrl+Alt+Backspace do anything. Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening? The printer is an Epson Stylus Color 740 if that has anything do with it.

I got it to work but I never plug it in while the system is up?

Hmm ok I'll try to do everything with it plugged in from the start, but shouldn't USB be hot-pluggable?

As they sometimes say hotplug is in a state of flux.

Ok, well I tried plugging it in and then booting up and all was well until I turned on the printer and it froze again. Any other ideas?
