system configuration

I managed to install RH 5.1 on an old machine. I would like to try another distro but I need to find the file that shows how my hardware is configured( screen resolution, hor/ver freq. rates etc.), so I won't have problems with my next installation.

Not sure about 5.1, but take a look at /etc/X11 at either XF86Config, or XF86Config-4 .

A newer distribution is going to handle your graphics setup better.

You may need to do a little research on your monitor and video card to find out the resolution capabilities and frequencies. Possibly a newer distribution will recognize your monitor and video card for you.

good luck...
