system apps

what apps do i HAVE to install when installing linux? i'm using KDE 3.1.
can i install only mozilla (and not konqueror, opera, kmail, etc.)? do i really need 6 audio apps (i'd like to listen to mp3s, and cds, and grab/convert files)? what if i do something wrong and don't install some of the drivers?
i'm a linux newbie trying to get rid of M$...

No, you dont have to install everything.

As a newbie though, i'd recommend it, it lets you try out all the applications so you can make a choice on what you like best.

But during installation, just choose what apps you want, any essential/dependant apps will be automatically added.

Then add/remove apps usim URPMI and the mandrake control centre.
