It should be possible to boot from another IDE drive (or CDROM) to make any needed changes to the operating system on the SCSI drive. However, if the BIOS is not seeing the SCSI device thus preventing you from booting from it, I don't think changing the data on the SCSI drive would affect the way the drive is listed (or not) in the BIOS. So, I don't know if booting from another drive will fix your problem.
