Sys not seeing SCSI boot devise - Can I Boot IDE to look at it

My system an IBM 7000 M10 is not seeing a boot devise fron the SCSI card.

Can I boot to an IDE running the sam OS (Gentoo) as the SCSI HD's and then look at the SCSI HD's do make any modifications to it in order to get it to boot to them with out distroying the original data on the SCSI HD's?
If not look at at least be able to copy the data and then do a reinstall of the SCSI's and then the data.

It should be possible to boot from another IDE drive (or CDROM) to make any needed changes to the operating system on the SCSI drive. However, if the BIOS is not seeing the SCSI device thus preventing you from booting from it, I don't think changing the data on the SCSI drive would affect the way the drive is listed (or not) in the BIOS. So, I don't know if booting from another drive will fix your problem.
