Sys Backup To CDR
I's like to know if there is a application that'll allow me to backup my entire system to CD-R(s). So..... if I change some config files or some serious error occurs, I can pop in a CD and restore the system. Something like Norton Ghost or TrueImage in windows. Any applications that can do this?
By the way I using Slackware 10.0, if that makes a difference. After using Swaret and killing my system 5 times, I figured this is something I should look into sooner rather then later.:Pengy: |
Mondo Rescue (http://www.microwerks.net/~hugo/) is one I've looked at (briefly), but never got working in anger; it supposedly supports backup to CD. Amanda (http://www.amanda.org/) is another one which is well thought of, but it's probably more of an expert tool than Mondo Rescue. I personally use rsync to backup my data files, and haven't backed up the OS itself. Our sys admins just use shell scripts and tar to save disk images onto a big NAS.

I use Mondo Rescue and it works great for me. It allows you to choose what parts of the system to back up and how. The most useful way to back it up - at least for me - is to bootable CD's, so you can just pop in the first CD in the set of backups and start restoring.
