Synchronize Pocket PC With Red Hat Linux?
 

Will I be able to synchronize or copy files from my Red Hat Linux 8.0 Professional to my PDA(Pocket PC 2002)?


What is the Pilot Handspring tool in my Red Hat Linux for? How to use it? Does it work with Pocket PC 2002?

RedHat 9 (2.4.20-8) has install an Accessory called Handheld PDA, which opens Gnome Pilot (though I only have KDE installed) which leads to Pilot Link. I have run the setup, however, it will not sync with my Toshiba Pocket PC e335.

Will the Pocket PC software sync on Linux, or are we stuck syncing in Windoze. I would like to use this device with Evolution.

This would be a useful bit of information to know. How many people are out there who, like myself, are reluctant to go with linux due to complications with synchronization of their Pocket Pcs?

Anybody know a viable workaround for connecting a PPC to Linux?

I've been having trouble in synCE, with the ppd connection failing when I try to make a partnership.
I've googled the problem, posted elsewhere and even to the user discussion group but no dice.
I have programming experience but this is not a programming problem - I think...
Latest tries are below - but scroll to the bottom for the punchline... is it relevant or a red herring?

remove pda first - then exdplicitly killing dccm via...

Is this a clue?????
- dmesg reports the disconnect.
- usbview dosn't find the pda
i.e. definately disconnected before doing the dccm -f bit.

I take it that the pppd[9849] bit occurred for the synce-partnership create command?
What is it doing looking for a device /dev/ttyUSB2
The device is /dev/tty/USB0
What gives?

Discover, I do not have ipaq.h or ipaq.c !!!!!
Therefore, I connot tell if the driver is faulty - though the patch notes assure me that the 2.4.22 kernel with v5 of the ipaq driver *should* work fine.

Sorry but I can't help. The Toshiba is still in the box on my bookshelf.

I bought a little Sony Clie PEG-SJ33/U last year. It was such a pain in
the rear to try to get it to work with Linux that I gave up. But it uses the
Palm OS, so it will work. Just I haven't spent the time to configure it.

I'm now running Slackware 9.1, and at this moment, installing Slackware 10.0
on a virgin hard drive. I may try it later with Slack 10.0, but I've so many other
things to get working that it's taken a backseat. I would like to get it to work.
I've also not used usbview, because once I learned how to read the usb info
in dmesg and lsusb, I can just mount all my usb devices easily.

Why don't you start your own new thread so you'll get good exposure? And
fwiw you should pick a time in your time zone when a lot of guys are on the
boards. You can tell by looking on the LQ Home Page, or maybe at the bottom
of the forums page.

I'd like to keep up with your progress. The only thing I really see that sticks out
is this: the FAQ says a USB hub, which may mean a 4-port USB hub, for example,
and not the root USB hub, which I think is the controller on the mobo - but I could
be wrong about that, also.

P.S. I'm most definitely not a guru - that's what Jeremy puts when you hit 1,000
posts at LQ. It has nothing to do with *nix knowledge.
