synaptic config files; KDE 3.4
Dear Linux gurus
1. How do I upgrade to KDE 3.4? Plz give sufficient details as I'm a newbie. I'm runnung Mepis which is debian-based distro. 2. In Synaptic, while removing packages from my computer, it gives the option to remove the related config files as well. Should I remove the config files as well? I there any harm in getting rid of them or any merits of keeping them? Thanks a lot. Take care CoolBlue |
It seems as 3.4 currently isn't in the Debian repository.
1.) You can always try to install manually (or using Konstruct)KDE home but how about waiting 'til it's in the repo's? I would advice you to wait since you're pretty new to Linux, upgrading KDE manually is not that easy. 2.) You can safely remove them if you don't want to keep just in case you reisnstall the program again. |
You can probably install it from Ubuntu/Kubuntu. Just add the following line to /etc/apt/sources.list: Then do:
Code:
apt-get update |
Another place I found scrolling through APT repos :
Code:
(Verified) KDE 3.4.0 taken from http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde-3.4.0/ recompiled for powerpc (Added 2005-04-27, last checked 2005-05-1) (Download as text) - maintained by www dot debian-desktop dot org |
