sym links -- RealPlayer
 Iv'e just installed RealPlayer 10 in root on gentoo. It only works in root.
I don't have the faintest idea what the next lines mean!: "Copying RealPlayer files...configure system-wide symbolic links? [Y/n]: .Y enter the prefix for symbolic links [/usr]: .. Setting up realplay symlinks in /usr... I just hit enter hoping a default setting would suffice. Thats probably why it only works in root. Does anyone know what is supposed to be typed there? /usr what ????. Thanks in advance -- Larry |
Have a look in /usr/bin whether you can find
a symlink that resembles to realplayer. Follow the link and check the permissions on the original file. If you can't find the symlink run updatedb as root (updatedb -c if you have slocate, updatedb / [with any other parameters you may require] for the normal locate). Cheers, Tink |
There are about 30, 40 files in /usr/bin. Nothing that looks like a sym-link to RealPlayer
updatedb and updatedb -c just lock up the system. I'm wondering if a sym-link was created? All I really need to know is what is supposed to follow /usr, /lmellen???, or whatever??? I've already install/uninstall about 40 times trying to get this to work, once more won't hurt. Thanks for the reply -- Larry |
