Sybase ASE install on Ubuntu problem

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to install Sybase ASE EXpress 15.5 on Ubuntu and am getting the following error message: ./startserver: error while loading shared libraries: libaio.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.

Please help.

Thank you.
Marina

Try installing what it's asking for: libaio.
Code:
apt-get install libaio1
could do the trick.

Thank you for responding. I typed the code you mentioned and got the following error message: E: couldn't find package libaio.

Please help.

First, an advice: that "please help" message it's annoying, to say the least. Stop using it.
About your problem, surely the libaio library is in a ubuntu package named something like "*libaio*". Try
Code:
apt-cache search libaio
That should return some names of packages, that you should install later with
Code:
apt-get install <name_of_package>
