switching from windows to Linux directly
hai,
I installed Ubuntu Linux. I hav also widowsXP on my PC. I want direct switch from windows to Linux & vice versa. without restarting the system. That mean if I m login on windowXp ,then from windosXp i want switch to linux. |
I'm new to this, but you would be best using a virtual machine of some kind (I was just about to post a thread about them!) - it's an application that runs in whatever operating system you are running, and you install other operating systems onto it.
I've used Virtual PC inside XP Pro, to run other XP Pro's and also Server 2003 - it works fine. It's slow, but I think that's because of the hardware - it's only built to run one OS at a time. Again, I'm no expert on Virtual PC, so I don't know if it can be made to run fullscreen at a decent resolution; it probably can. This thread is really cool!, http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/sho...php?t=17837433 - I was just reading it and it reminded me to ask here who uses what virtual machine app's and what they recommend. |
I also suggest you run a virtual machine. I like vmware or xen. I've done UBUNTU 7.10 running on my laptop with XP Pro running on a virtual machine.
I used Vmware Server and it worked great and very stable. VMware tends to work better on a Linux host OS than a MS host. VMware server lets you run the virtual machines in the background and lets you boot the virtual machines when the host operating system boots up. i like Xen too but i don't think it's free anymore. |
VMware
Hi there.
Id recommend you VMware which is a virtualization software. The software is very handy and allows you to switch between OS by just hitting Alt-Tab. Although even i am just a newbie having win xp and ubuntu, but the VMware software is good enough to run the 2 things. Hope it helps. |
Running some sort of virtualization would be the only way to do this.
